10 ways to live a healthier life

Updated: Jul 9, 2020

Your easy 10 step guide. Theres nothing in here you dont already know. Ive made this simple guide as a remnder of 10 things that don't cost anything and can be part of your everyday routine. No doubt if you follow these 10 - you will be healthier.

  1. Breathe. Become aware of your breath, and just breathe slowly and deeply as Deepak says each day. Iyanla Vanzant advises us to remember to breathe because as long as you are breathing, you are alive - it's that smple - and it's a great tool in a time of crisis, or if you are with some one in shock or in any distress - get them to breathe, an easy way to be helpful and useful. Tony Robbins also has some great breathing excersises you can google, and I recently found a method which says breathe in as if you are smelling a rose, and out as if you are blowing out a candle. Ken Lauher has an excersise which is breathing in through the nose and out in 8 short puffs, and you repeat nine times. And of course Sarah Hallworth has us breathing throughout all our Siam and SH training. Happy Breathing.

  2. Drink water. Still water from a glass or copper container according to Sadh Guru there are traditional water vessels in homes accross South India and flowers are added to bring good energy. I have been putting my tap water in glass bottles and leaving it for a few hours before drinking. You can google Sadh Guru for an explanation of why its important. my friend Russell Penn also advises keeping water in glass and thanking the water as you drink it. What an amazing thought that you can use this time to appreciate as you hydrate!

  3. Meditate. Even five minutes a day will change your life. Deepak says there is a positive force larger than us that lies within. "Allow HOPE to be your guide" and from Maya Angelou " HOPE and fear cannot occupy the same space - Invite one to stay" I have been practicing the free 21 day meditations from Deepak and Oprah since 2015 and I have purchased some to keep on my phone, but you can start by following them for free. Its an easy way to start and they include guided talks each day which are interesting and inspirational.

  4. Fitness. If you cant run walk. If you can work out then do. I am a member of Siam Boxing Camp and the benefits are always with me. A fit body brings so many benefits along with the obvious look of it. Tony Robbins always says " I can look at you and tell how you treat your body, if you work out I can see it" Sarah Hallworth always says with pain comes pleasure, and during tough sessions remember the end is alwys near. Ali used to say he hated training but he was a champion for the rest of his life - choose one that inspires you because theres no getting around how much better your life is when you train hard.

  5. Get out in nature. This one reminds me of Marion Scott she has a facebok page called 'Time to Restart'

and often advises getting out in nature. Every day having outside time exposes you to nature and sunlight. Sadh Guru reminds us that life would end after 18 hours if the sun didnt rise. I love this nudge to be happy that the sun is up. If you work indoors, go out on a break, even 10 minutes will change your day - you can breathe while you're at it ;)

  1. Do something you love. I love painting watercolour or making birthday cards. Whatever fun thing you can find to do, I like the painting because I can give the results as a gift and it takes me out of myself. Colouring, crafting, sewing, anything like that will make you feel better.

  2. Turn off screens and devices. I have read there are health benefits to turning off your wifi. So Im now going to bed without my phone. If this is hard for you then pick the odd time when you are doing something else, even taking a bath - and turn off the wifi for half an hour.

  3. Bath or Shower. This always works to make you feel better, it works for everyone, even children having tantrems. If you have a bath its a lovely thing to run a bubble or salt bath for someone else, and if you've ever had this done for you, you know how it feels. If you put a kilo of salt in a bath epsom/sea/dead sea you can get the added benefit of losing toxins!

  4. Play music! And dance around if you can!

  5. Cook your own food. I find diets and cutting back in any way to be problematic!! One thing you can do is cook for yourself when you have time and this cuts out a lot of salt and sugar plus it is a healthy passtime. ( If you have a garden you can grow a few herbs and even salad, if not you can have pots of herbs growing in your kitchen)
